One of the things I heard most this weekend: "Your daughter is so awesome!"

And K pointed out that that totally makes me glow. :)

Because she is. My daughter is smart, clever, kind, funny, and so many other things. She impressed the hell out of her fellow panelists; one thing I hear about is that she is so composed for her age. She has her act together way more than I did at 14, that's for sure. Part of it comes from being raised with my friends as her friends - so she's grown up conversing with adults and never being condescended to. She's taken seriously, and her opinions are valid.

Part of it, I think, is intrinsic awesomeness. She has rocked from a very young age. When people compliment me on my l33t parenting skillz, I point out that I had great source material. :)

Here. Have an example, from her 14th birthday party, performing a selection from catvalente's Orphan's Tales with the fabulous s00j.

Yes, she has that reading memorized. And we only suggested that she do it that morning. Made of win.

And you should be proud! And in the matter of amazing young women: When they get there, take the time to get to know fiddle_dragon's daughters. They are both brilliant, wonderful young women, and will be missed by everyone here in Minnesota (as will fiddle_dragon herself!).

I don't doubt it a bit. :) They're both getting to know Elayna via Facebook, too...

I think it really helps kids to have adults who interact with them as real people. I think Madison has benefited from interacting with our games night crowd. She was teaching people to play Kingsburg a few weeks back.

My best parenting trick is to think about what my parents would have done, and do something else.

Your kid is made of win. I seriously hope that if I ever have kids, they are half as cool as Miss Elayna
