Happy birthday to the fantabulous brujah!

Medical
Got glutened over Thanksgiving. The leading candidate is the fudge; I unthinkingly ran a finger along the smudge on the outside of the bag and stuck it in my mouth. *headdesk* Was a tad hivey by the time I went to bed, and my skin was AAAAGH the next day. Plus bonus fatigue, but that could also be chalked up to, y'know, being on my feet all day and being up til 2.

Quote of the Day
"I firmly believe in small gestures: pay for their coffee, hold the door for strangers, over tip, smile or try to be kind even when you don't feel like it, pay compliments, chase the kid's runaway ball down the sidewalk and throw it back to him, try to be larger than you are-- particularly when it's difficult. People do notice, people appreciate. I appreciate it when it’s done to (for) me. Small gestures can be an effort, or actually go against our grain ("I'm not a big one for paying compliments..."), but the irony is that almost every time you make them, you feel better about yourself. For a moment life suddenly feels lighter, a bit more Gene Kelly dancing in the rain."

Beautiful deep-sea creatures.

Plans
I must post Interfictions 2 auction post and Mall of Shadesong post. Otherwise I have a few story commissions and a whole lot of sorting stuff out to do; this is my last full week at home, so I must get my ducks in order.

I like the small gestures thing. But it's not like singing in the rain, it's like being inside a nice little car that does turn signals right and brakes right and stops at the toll booth with the right change and says polite things -- protecting me from the rain.

kar3ning's husband is a longtime pal of mine. I spent 10 days visiting him when he was teaching English in Toride, Japan. (Great guy...and from reading her post, I'm dying to meet her.)

There's a follow-up to the Method fallout here. What do you think?
30th-Nov-2009 04:58 pm (UTC)
I'm glad they pulled it - but it took way more outcry to get them to act than it should have. They were sending condescending "sorry you don't have a sense of humor" letters to offended consumers for over a week.

Yeah, I was one of the early senders, and my reply from Method (documented on Shakesville) was fairly condescending, implying I just didn't get the ad and that it was supposed to be a "fun and captivating" metaphor.

It was interesting watching the tone of the responses change over the week, but it also irritated me that it took them so long to GET that people had been living with harrassment fallout and that it wasn't funny to them.

What kind of fudge? Why would there be gluten in fudge??? *confused* Mr. Rhi makes fudge all the time at Xmas time and there's no gluten in it that I know of.

Spraying the pan with Pam or flouring it, we think. We can't figure any other vector.

You don't flour the pan for fudge

Gotcha!! I was kind of freaked out and confused for a moment. :D

Lord, I posted that Bella/Edwar link and the end result was basically "you can't judge fictional relationships with fictional creatures on out standards."

Yeah, I just stared and let the discussion die. I was getting sick of her argument changing every post.

The thing that concerns me that that a lot of young teenage girls are imprinting on this as a model relationship... anyone who thinks we aren't shaped by what we read isn't paying attention, y'know?

Oh, but 'Song! Teens and Tweens are smarter than that, dontcha know! Only idiots are influenced by movies and books! It's just fiction!

You can double-check with thorbol, but I'm pretty sure that if there was any gluten in the fudge that it wasn't intentional. (But of course it can be hard to tell if there are trace amounts...)

Wish you hadn't gotten glutened; that can't have been fun. :(

Oh, I'm sure! Most people don't know that stuff like Pam has gluten.

I can't think what else it could've been. I didn't eat much that I didn't prepare myself, and I know we used gluten-free chicken and vegetable stock, et cetera.

But eh, it happens.
