* Another XKCD that amuses me. :)
* A federal judge has ruled that the Army Corps of Engineers is responsible for the flood damage from Hurricane Katrina. Shoddy maintenance.
* The Bad Sex in Fiction prize shortlist - caution, there's one rape scene in there. The rest are just hilariously awful.
* Bobby McFerrin demonstrates the wonder of the pentatonic scale.
* Crossed Genres needs your help!
* Trailer for The Lightning Thief.
* Requested: graphic novel recommendations for teenage boys.
* Visualizing sound with fire.
* This. :)

The wonders of graphene.

Friday Memeage
Wearing: Black slacks, black long-sleeved shirt, blue cowlneck sweater.
Reading: A whole bunch of celiac cookbooks/guidebooks. I'm between pleasure-reading books at the moment.
Writing: Notes for the rape culture book.
Knitting: I'm on the home stretch of my second basic triangular shawl, the Silk Garden one. When I finish that, I'll pick up Travelling Woman again. I think I default to only one shawl at a time.
Planning
Today: Interview! Afternoon with swashbucklr, probably reading tonight with mikemarano.
Tomorrow: Wyrding Studios party, then Enter the Haggis concert with feste_sylvain, aquila_dominus, and cluegirl.
Sunday: Meeting with other Clothesline Project subgroup members.

You?

EDIT: Interview postponed til Monday; interviewer's kid woke up with a fever. :(

Ooh, thanks for the signal-boost.

According to my mother, the government has not been held responsible for flooding due to the failure of the 17th St. canal, which is what got us.

Crap, that was me. Commenting from work means I hadn't logged in yet.

Oh, hey, the Percy trailer actually looks very nice. I worked on the Mrs. Dodds bit, and the rooftop stuff, and a few other shots, but I only ever see this stuff in a relative vacuum.

Elayna and I were very impressed!

I just ran across a gluten-free cookie recipe and thought I'd toss it your way:

"Honey Almond Drops

1.5C ground almonds (or other ground nuts such as hazel nuts or pecans)
1C firmly packed brown sugar or honey
1 egg white
1.5 tsp butter.

Combine all ingredients in a sauce pan on *low* heat, stirring constantly until well blended.
Allow dough to cool.

Shape into balls and drop them onto a *very well greased* cookie sheet.
(press your thumb into the balls if you want to).
Bake for half an hour (or up to 40 minutes) in a 325F oven.
Allow to cool on the baking sheet.
I tend not to ice them, but my Joy of Cooking (all hail the Joy of Cooking) suggests a lemon or chocolate glace if people want to ice them. :-)

Note: They're tasty, and are handily gluten-free, but: They become *very* crunchy over time. So either make them just before they're going to be eaten, or make them moderately large so that there is a lot of 'center' (which isn't as crunchy).
