Dancer/Holy Ground - by Iroshi
Today, I want an exuberant song. Please post a favorite joyful, exuberant song in comments. :)

Here's mine: Great Big Sea, "Can't Stop Falling". :)

I wasn't looking for a lover,
I wasn't looking for a friend
I wasn't working undercover, wasn't trying to pretend
But when you walked across the dance floor,
just like the moon across the sky
I knew that I would have to see more,
knew that I would have to try
One look into your eyes, and I realize...

Oh no I can't stop falling
My heart betrays me
And I know I'll start to feel it all again
Won't someone save me

She jumped aboard the brown line,
I accidentally caught her eye
She told me she was born a Libra,
I told her I was Gemini
She made suggestive conversation,
then she lightly brushed my hand
Overcome by her temptations,
we jumped off down by the strand
And in the English night, I realize it again...

She asks me to come inside,
we can just talk for a while
I wonder if I should
but her touch, her touch, it feels so good...

But I look into your eyes, and I realize it again.

Dancing Lessons

I wanna go wallking with you
If you'd agree
I wanna do some talking with you
Where no one can see
I wanna go dancing darling
If you agree
I think I'll feel a safe step darling
If you were with me

And when you wrap your arms around me
When you take me close and say
That you're so happy and glad you found me
You take my rainy days and make them go away

Long time I've been thinking of you
Do you think of me too?
Long time I've been dreaming of you
Make this dream come true
Long time I've been wondering about this
Can this really exist
I swear I feel a peaceful feeling
In the warmth of your kiss

And when you wrap your arms around me
When you take me close and say
That you're so glad you found me
You take my rainy days and make them go away

On this journey may the good lord guide us
And may the goddess dance beside us

And when you wrap your arms around me
When you take me close and say
That you're so glad you found me
You take my rainy days and make them go away

And when you wrap your arms around me
When you take me close and say
That you're so glad you found me
You take my rainy days and make them go away

This is one that I find gets me wanting to get up on my feet moving singing and just wow:

The energy of this one makes it something I can listen to on repeat over, and over, and over again.

Kinnie Starr: Praise!

I'd link to a lyrics site, but every single one of them has the lyrics wrong (and some of them terribly so!). But google an mp3 site and listen, I think you'll like the song (I can't link to those from work).
9th-Jul-2009 03:26 pm (UTC) - Dance Me 'Round
I heard this from an a cappella group; I honestly don't know the original recording, and I can't find a recording online. Here's the lyrics; I can sing it for you (or your voiceposting number if you gave that to me!).

Lui Collins: Dance Me 'Round

You make my heart beat.
You make my head spin.
You make my eyes glow.
You make me warm from within.
Well, I have been in love before, but
I have never known the likes of this.
So lover, dance me 'round once more,
Dance me 'round and show me what I've missed.

You make my feet dance
You make my heart sing.
You make my eyes see.
You make me warm from within.
My toes start tapping when I hear your voice.
A smile lights your face, its music makes me whole.
So lover, dance me 'round once more.
Dance me 'round, we're dancing soul to soul.

You make the stars shine.
You make the clouds depart.
You make the moon glow.
You make the joy well up in my heart.
With winter solstice on its way, the sun's
shining brighter than it ever did in May.
So lover, dance me 'round once more,
Dance me 'round and 'round the floor
You show me and I'll show you the way.

my *main* boingboingboing song is 'When I'm Up (I can't get down)' but since you've gone the Great Big Sea route...

Jenny Says by Cowboy Mouth.

Jenny says turn off the radio
Jenny says turn off the light
Jenny says turn off the video
You beat yourself up to bring yourself down
Let it go, let it go, LET IT GO!
Let it go, let it go, LET IT GO!
When the world keeps coming down on me, I...

(I also have a thing for Game of Love by Santana featuring Michelle Branch, but really, the lyrics aren't cheery per se, but it's bouncy and exuberant and I like it for that.)

While you're listening to GBS, how about The Night Pat Murphy Died?
9th-Jul-2009 03:37 pm (UTC)
It's a night I'll never forget.

"The River Where She Sleeps" by Dave Carter and Tracy Grammer. A fast-pickin' banjo ditty.

She's a walkin' talkin' breathin' New Age wonder, old time heathens
Don't know what to make of Mary Jane
'Cause she ain't tryin to be no swami, she ain't mad at dad and mommy
She don't curse the storm clouds when it rains
When the sun refuse to shine she don't mind, she make everything look fine
She got moon in her eyes, crescent windows on the skies
And the rain comes down in sheets on the people in the streets
And it carries all the secrets that they keep to the river where she sleeps

She comes to me when I'm dejected, leaves her soul out unprotected
Tells me that the truth can make me free
And she don't need what she ain't got, she reads me books by Alan Watts
Speakin' words o' wisdom: let it be
When the sun refuse to shine she don't mind, she take thunder for a sign
She got stars in her head, supernovas in her bed
And it rains most every day, but I like it fine that way
'Cause the waters run so marvelous and deep in the river where she sleeps

Mary ain't inclined to drinkin', still she stumbles without thinkin'
Anywhere she gets the urge to stray
And everybody knows about her, they don't want to change or doubt her
They just grin when she comes out to play
When the sun refuse to shine she don't mind, she be movin' down the line
She got bells on her toes, generations in her clothes
And she sings without a sound as the evenin' rolls around
And she dances as the twilight shadows creep down the river where she sleeps

Professor come to burst my bubble, says that girl is bound for trouble
Serves me solace in a paper cup
But it looks a bit like agent orange and when he leaves he slams the door and
Just about that time she phones me up
When the sun refuse to shine she don't mind, she just ain't the worryin' kind
She got dogs, she got cats, she keeps rabbits in her hats
And the people that she sees, they're all Buddha's or police
And the banks rise high and perilous and steep by the river where she sleeps

Now one dismayed December dawn I wake to find my Mary's gone
And no one knows when she'll come back again
And all the silent temple bells from Styx to Glenn to Hazel Dell
Are mournin' all the nights that might have been
When the sun refuse to shine she don't mind, she just leave this world behind
She got wheels in her smile, she can coast along for miles
Me I'm walkin' all alone, feelin' soulful to the bone
Till I stop and I hang my head and weep by the river where she sleeps

OK, so it's about rape and abortion and betrayal, but it's a really, really, really happy and positive song to me and has carried me through much of the past year:

(Amanda Palmer's "Oasis" - if the above link doesn't work, go to http://www.whokilledamandapalmer.com/videos.php and keep going down until you get to Oasis)

Ha, I was going to suggest "Sing".

Great Big Sea, "Ordinary Day."

Edited to add: A lot of their songs qualify, really. It's one reason I like the band so much.

This would be my song as well. I'm not even sure I can think of a non-Great Big Sea that has the same effect on me.

I love finding new music and threads like this...

There are clearer sounding video's on YouTube, but this is her singing on stage

Strength Courage & Wisdom by India.Arie

And I second third just about any GBS song...I can't wait to see them live next month!

I've had The Pointer Sisters in my head this week, "I'm So Excited".

Honktonk piano, gorgeous babes, and a rockin' good time.

Can't get much more exuberant than that!
